What is your name?
What is the name of your business?
I am a part owner of Hair Studio 103
What does your business do?
I am a self-employed Hair stylist.
Why did you start your business?
Being self-employed gave me the freedom to price my services fairly for the experience I have. My guests all experience a high level of service, friendship and fair priced services.
What do you like best about running your own business?
Freedom and flexibility. I appreciate being able to control every aspect of my business myself.
What is your biggest challenge when it comes to running your own business?
Sometimes I don’t give myself the breaks that an employer would.
What are you most proud of when it comes to your business?
I have been self-employed for 14 years chair renting from salon owners and in my 15th year I became a salon owner myself. I never thought it would happen and I am proud that I accomplished that milestone.
What is your favourite locally owned business (other than your own)?
I love the folks at Globally Fair. They are wonderful and so helpful and supportive.
Why do you believe supporting locally owned businesses is important?
These local businesses are owned by your neighbours and perhaps your friends, meaning the folks in your community. Supporting local is important because it impacts the local community in a positive way. Local businesses are more apt to use local banks, service providers and other local businesses and are accountable to their community by supporting the local area with donations and being mindful of their environmental footprint. In other words, the money you spend with a local business will most likely stay in the community both for business and nonprofit with a mindset of not hurting the local environment because they live here too.
